European Perspective on the Deacons

This past January I received an interesting credential request for the Wake Forest-Boston College men's basketball game in February. It was from a reporter named Alessandro Mamoli, who wrote for an Italian publication called Sky Sport.

Alessandro was planning to make a trip to the U.S. for a coast-to-coast tour of college basketball. Like any legit college basketball trip, you have to make a stop on Tobacco Road, so Alessandro wanted to cover the Wake-BC game at the Joel Coliseum.

It wasn't a hard decision to approve the credential request from abroad, and after meeting Alessandro before the game I had no regrets about it. He was a nice fellow who knew quite a bit about U.S. college basketball and even the Demon Deacons. He was well aware of Wake Forest's three NBA draft prospects in Aminu, Johnson and Teague.

With numerous duties to perform and fires to put out before the game that night, I didn't think twice about my brief but pleasant conversation with Alessandro afterward...until, that is, he sent me an email this week. He wanted to thank me for the credential and also pass along the published article about the trip.

Interested to read his perspective on the Deacons, I opened the article only to realize that it was written in Italian. Not speaking anything other than English and a little high school-level Spanish, I was out of luck. Nonetheless, the trip, which also included stops to Duke, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Arizona and Arizona State, looked successful in the illustrations accompanying the article.

Here is a link to the article if you want to try your hand at Italian. Ciao!
