Preseason Football Polls
'Tis the season for preseason football polls. With that mind, here is a link that summarizes a good majority of the preseason polls out there. The Deacons come in, on average, at No. 40. Wake received votes in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll, which was released last week.

Deacon Feature Saturday on ABC
"Football Saturdays in the South" is a TV series produced by Raycom that highlights many of the unique aspects of college football. The first episode airs on Saturday, July 18 and features Randy Burnette, the gentleman who provides the motorcycle that the Deacon rides into BB&T Field and the Joel Coliseum.
The show airs on WXLV (ABC) in the Triad at 4:00 pm on Saturday, July 18.

Hip Hop Dance Class Photos
A handful of Wake Forest student-athletes were able to show off their moves by taking a hip hop dance class this summer. Football's Brandon Ghee, Basketball's L.D. Williams, Soccer's Cody Arnoux and Volleyball's Megan Thornberry were all in the class.
Hunter Willard from Student-Athlete Services was kind enough to take some photos and post a gallery online to show the dancers in action. Too bad there wasn't a video camera rolling as well...

Rob Daniels on Seattle's Deacons
We just posted on WakeForestSports.com a fairly large package on three former Deacons currently playing for the Seattle Seahawks. Rob Daniels (formerly of the Greensboro News & Record) made the trip to the Pacific Northwest and talked with Aaron Curry, John Tereshinski and Steve Vallos.
Rob was able to get audio, video and photos of the three former Deacs, in addition to penning a nice article about their reunion in the Emerald City.

Pro-Style
Here are a few updates on Wake Forest's alums in pro sports and those contemplating a career in the pros.
Among Wake's NBA prospects, Jeff Teague suffered a knee sprain this week during an NBA workout. Dan Wiederer of the Fayetteville Observer muses over Teague’s draft possibilities. Jocklife offers up a pre-draft profile of James Johnson. And Al-Farouq Aminu did not strongly consider leaving Wake Forest after his freshman year.
Over in the NFL, Kevin Patterson was waived by the Jacksonville Jaguars. Kenny Moore is making the most of his shot with the Panthers and Tyson Clabo re-signed with the Atlanta Falcons.

Deacon Football Roster Updated
The 2009 Demon Deacon football roster has been updated on WakeForestSports.com. On the new roster, each of the incoming freshmen have jersey numbers and a handful of veterans have switched their digits. As it's always interesting to see who chose new numbers, below is a look at all of the significant changes for '09.

Rodney Rogers and Jeff Teague Updates
In case you missed Chris Webber's interview with Rodney Rogers that aired on TNT on Thursday.
Jeff Teague told USA Today that he was taking his time in deciding whether to stay in the NBA Draft or not. Jeff also spoke with Andy Katz of ESPN.com.
Michael Bingham, Wake's 400 meter specialist, advanced to the NCAA Championships after winning the regional this weekend. Bingham was the NCAA indoor 400 champion back in March.
Last year, a trio of Wake Forest football players went to Africa to help build orphanages. The UNC School of the Arts has produced a documentary on the trip.

The first time I saw this story, I thought it was too good to be true. But, Alphonso Smith seems to confirm that he did indeed practice throwing darts.

Kevin Marion Joins Alouettes
Former Wake wide receiver and kick returner Kevin Marion has signed with the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Kevin was in camp with the Pittsburgh Steeler last summer.

Arnoux Ruptures Achilles
Stanley Arnoux suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon during Saints mini-camp and will most likely miss the 2009 NFL season. The New Orleans Times-Picayune talked to Saints teammate Chip Vaughn.

NFL Draft Updates
If you want to know what Aaron Curry has been doing since being picked by the Seattle Seahawks in the first round of the NFL Draft on April 25, it's really not that hard.
Aaron Curry had the chance to meet the media in Seattle last week and he left a positive impression. Among his comments to the press was one where he claimed he “was just getting started.”
Aaron’s mom, Chris, accompanied him as did his fiancé, Jamila. AC talked to Jim Moore of the Seattle Post-Intelligencer about his love of dogs.
Danny O’Neill of the Seattle Times has some fast facts on AC including his love of Jujubees.
Aaron took a few minutes to answer some questions from the Sporting News and talked about how he changed a young man’s life. When he finally made it onto the practice field, he found himself already on the first team.

Recapping The Draft
Aaron Curry is certainly dominating the news. The Seattle media is in love with him, calling him "the right choice," "emotional" and a "flawless fit." One headline writer said that the Seahawks needed a "little Curry." During the draft in Radio City Music Hall, Aaron was a fan favorite .
The Seahawks are impressed with the passion that AC has for the game while Dan Collins writes about AC's dream come true. Pro Football Weekly says that there wasn't a better choice than AC to Seattle.
Down in Aaron's hometown of Fayetteville, NC, Sammy Batten with the Fayetteville Observer has been busy, writing from the perspective of those in Fayetteville while talking to Aaron's brother while Kent Babb spoke with Aaron's mom Chris.
Alphonso Smith was a second round pick of the Denver Broncos and spoke with the Denver media following his selection.

ESPN Player Remotes for NFL Draft
Yesterday ESPN released that it will have remote camera crews with 19 different prospects on Day 1 of the NFL Draft, scheduled to start on Saturday at 4 p.m.
In addition, ESPN will also have a crew setup at the Drew Rosenhaus gathering. Five players represented by agent Rosenhaus, including Wake's own Alphonso Smith, will gather together in Pennsylvania to watch the draft.
Demon Deacon and likely top-five pick Aaron Curry has been invited to attend the Draft in New York City. Curry's decision to invite a young leukemia patient with him to the Draft is chronicled here.

Deacon Podcast #18
The 18th installment of the Deacon Podcast was posted online today. The podcast features interviews with women's golf coach Dianne Dailey and football coach Jim Grobe.
Dailey guided the Deacons to the 2009 ACC title, snapping Duke's 13-year run at the top of the league. Sophomore Natalie Sheary also won the individual title for the Deacons. Congrats to Natalie and all of the Demon Deacon golfers for a fine performance last weekend at the Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.

Aaron Curry has certainly gotten a lot of media attention as he is considered one of the few players considered worty of being the number one pick. AC has appeared on Jim Rome, and talked to USA Today.
Various outlets are ranking the top linebacker prospects including the Baltimore Sun, Chicago Sun-Times and the Minneapolis Star-Tribune.
Curry is considered the "people's choice" in Detroit. While folks in Kansas City are debating whether Aaron will be a Chief.
Spring football wrapped up on Saturday.
